Play Bridge online with other Rockingham Bridge Club members

With the current coronavirus situation, no bridge sessions and the government strongly encouraging those over 70 to “self isolate”, these are very hard times.  However, it is extremely important that we keep our spirits up and keep ourselves busy and mentally stimulated.  Bridge Base Online is an online system that can be played on your phone, tablet or computer.  Is anyone missing a regular game with their friends from the club? Anyone looking for the chance to count some points and bid those slams?

If so Mike Fulwood is willing to host some games online with anyone who would like to try this way of enjoying our favourite pastime.

BridgeBase Online which is an excellent site for all sorts of bridge with people from across the world.
For those not familiar with it you can find it at http://bridgebase.com, you can play anytime but there is also a way in which we can organise to play with people from our Rockingham club. We can share play and chat as well.

Interested?  Here’s what you need to do.

To participate you will need to register for the site.
It’s free but you do need to register in order to login.
If you have played via BridgeBase before and already have a log in that’s great. You don’t need a new one.

For newbies to the site just click on this link http://bridgebase.com then click on “Become a Member (Free)”
This will take you to a form on the next page.
Three things in the form MUST be filled in

  • User Name (this can be anything you like)
  • Password
  • Confirm Password
  • Your name (I would ask that you use your real name as that will enable me to see who is who and sort tables better.)
  • ACBL – leave this blank, this is not your ABF number

You must also click on the box that says “I agree to the Terms of Service”

When you click the “Register” button you will be able to login using your User Name and password after doing this one crucial step.

Go to your Email program and you should have an email from Bridgebase Online (if you don’t – check your junk).  You will not be able to login in until you have found this email and clicked on the “Click here to confirm” link.

If you like have a tour of the site and see what it is like.  You might even find a seat and have a game with someone from across the globe.

Once you have registered please go here and add your Username details.  This will enable other Rockingham Bridge Club members to set you up as friends and vice versa.  To add your Username details please click here.  You will also be able to see other users and their usernames which will be updated as they add them.

ORGANISING A SESSION TOGETHER

To play together it would work like this.

Mike will set a time for a session online. We will also add sessions to the Rockingham Bridge Club Calendar – to access the Calendar click here.  If you log in during that time Mike sees you he will invite you to play.

It is possible to set up “Team Matches” in which two teams of four play against each other.  Mike can set up for as many groups of eight as are available during our session.

Mikes “User Name” is Tjilpi2 and he will invite you to join the team match.  Remember that “User name” and respond in the affirmative if I invite you.
Otherwise you won’t be able to join.

Mike will keep the matches short so that if we have an odd number of players (eg. not a group of eight) we can share the time and rotate around – play and watch.  Mike can also set up individual tables for extras to play when the team match is not open.

Mike has done this kind of thing before and it has worked well.

Here’s a checklist if you want to be involved.

  1. Register for Bridgebase.
  2. Add your Username on the Website
  3. Log in at the suggested time.
  4. Enjoy catching up and playing some bridge.

Thanks to Mike Fulwood for taking the lead on this.
