Through the drive and foresight of Peg Brady, Rockingham Bridge Club was founded in 1979. Peg’s class students of 1978 were the inaugural members and their first bridge session was held in the first week of July 1979, in the Library Hall at Rockingham. News soon got around that a bridge club had been formed and the membership grew. 40 years on, Rockingham Bridge Club is a thriving community group who meet 5 days a week to play Bridge.
To celebrate this milestone, the club held a celebratory luncheon at the Gary Holland Centre, in attendance was The Hon Premier Mark McGowan, Councillor Barry Sammels (Mayor of Rockingham) and his wife Karen, Representatives from BAWA and surrounding Bridge Clubs plus our all important members (past and present) and their partners.
Rockingham Bridge Club President Roz Davey was unwell and unfortunately couldn’t attend in person, she was represented by Nicky O’Connell (Vice President of Rockingham Bridge Club).
Wendy Pollock undertook the project of organising and coordinating the 40th party. It went off without a hitch and given that there was a lot to organise, this was a major achievement. Thank you Wendy. Thanks to Trevor – Wendy’s husband for his support during this time. A big thank you goes to our Treasurer Jenni who was always there with a helping hand and her husband who manned the bar.
The Honourable Paul Papalia (MP) and Diane Brooks were honoured as Patrons of the Rockingham Bridge Club. Di, is a founder member, a bridge teacher and is a Grand Master.
