22nd June 2020

Message from the President

Dear members,

At last, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Mid March till now! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and patience over this difficult time.  Wow it has been a long haul, but let’s count our blessings that we are in WA and have been very fortunate to have our governing body look after us so well.  We have had a directive from the WA Health Dept to urge bridge clubs to open as soon as they can.  We will still have to adhere to all stage 3 guide lines until they are lifted or changed.

So, friends, we are opening again.  Seven more sleeps and you can come to the Bridge Club and play in person.  The Bridge Club will be opening for Bridge Sessions starting Monday 29th June.  We want to celebrate this occasion with a bit of sparkle, so please wear all things glitter, shiny and bright.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my Committee who have brain stormed and brain stormed to make this happen – a very BIG THANK YOU to Kerrie, Cheryl, Hilary, Yvonne, David, Roz, Lyn and Michael.

I am so excited and I hope you are too – but there is a very serious side to this reopening and with it 10 commandments that must be obeyed!  These rules cannot be broken under any circumstances – they are part of our COVID Plan and are a legal requirement for our opening.  I cannot stress enough how important the rules are.

  1. If you are unwell or have any cold and flu like symptoms – do not come to the Bridge Club.
  2. You will be required to come a little early and be seated at your table 15 mins before the session starts.
  3. To enable contact tracing, we will be maintaining an attendance register
  4. Hand Sanitiser will be made available at the entrance, on the tables and other gathering points – please use this at every opportunity.  This is what stops the spread!
  5. To limit contact with the bidding boxes, E/W will take their bidding boxes with them when they move seats.
  6. Contactless table payment will be in operation, this will enable us to reduce the contact of uncontrolled surfaces – such as money.  Please bring your Credit or Debit Card with you, I know it is new, but all you have to do is tap your credit card and voilá.  If you don’t have one of these payment methods then a $5 note will do.  No change, no coins, no exceptions!
  7. Members only.  We are only allowed to host members of the club.  If your regular partner isn’t a member – please encourage them to join and we will fast track their membership. We will have to turn them away.  The membership form is available here.
  8. To assist with the COVID hygiene protocols, we will need to wipe down all touch points regularly – to keep costs down, we will be asking for volunteers who can stay behind on a Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday to assist.  We thank you in advance for your help.
  9. Until the dishwasher has been installed, if you would like a beverage then you will need to bring your own cup and take it home with you.
  10. You MUST keep to the WA and Federal law of the 1.5m social distancing.  No hand shakes, hugs, touching unless you are household members.  This is very very important.

Those are the 10 commandments!!!

Naturally we will have to keep our distance at the tea table.  Please realise that because of all these protocols we are expecting that sessions may not finish at the usual time, please plan for this until we get into our routines.

We will be open for all sessions.

It does seem a lot to take in, but I think after a few sessions we will get used to it and how great will it be to be back again.

We are only allowed to have 50 people in the room 12 1/2 tables!! having to reach these limits and worry about this would be a good problem to have!!

We held our Directors meeting on Friday, so great to see you all again and we had over 10 people attend, and the exciting part – including 4 newbies.  Thank you, thank you for taking the next step.  Training is currently being organised and we are hoping to do it locally – if you are interested but weren’t able to make it on Friday – please contact Eve Dethlefsen, it’s not too late!

I cannot wait to see you all, if anyone has any concerns contact any of your Committee Members and we will address.  Don’t forget your glitter and glam on Monday.

See you all soon.
Thank you
Nicky

Remember to bring your credit/debit card or a $5 note
